Petron to enable collaboration with its 1,000 suppliers
BayanTrade’s implementation of SAP Supplier Relationship Management solution for the oil giant a success
With 1,200 employees, an oil refinery with a capacity of 180,000 barrels a day, and 1,300 service stations, Petron Corporation faces the challenge of collaborating with 1,000 vendors that comply with the company’s operational requirements. To take up this challenge, Petron and BayanTrade partner up to implement the SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) solution in the oil company. The partnership resulted in a successful implementation, one of the pioneer SAP SRM installations in the Philippines.
SAP SRM is a business application that automates, simplifies, and accelerates procure-to-pay processes for goods and services. It creates shopping cart-based requisitions, purchase orders, RFQs, and work lists that can be monitored and approved online. It centralizes sourcing and procurement activities across all business groups in a company, allowing the generation of up-to-date reports and analytics that can be used to reduce costs and gain competitive advantage. A vital part of the SAP Business Suite family, SAP SRM extends the value of a company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) investment with integrated and harmonized processes, roles, workflow, and user interface. The online enablement of suppliers reduces entry duplication done by buyers in behalf of suppliers in the system. This allows Petron to act strategically on available and useful information derived from visible transactions across suppliers and the procure-to-pay cycle.
Petron starts up the program by focusing on the enablement of its top 100 suppliers. Collaboration through technology is a big step for Petron.
Ms. Ana Mendoza, Head of Petron Materials and Services Procurement Department (MSPD), encourages an open mind for all of the system’s users – corporate employees and suppliers alike. She says “Technologically-driven change is never easy. It will exact its demands on our energy, time and patience. For some, it will mean a complete reversal of the systems and procedures we have been used to doing. Still for some, it may entail a total change in our own roles or jobs in the organization or acquisition of new sets of skills altogether.
“Managing change is definitely not easy, but I believe it can be done and can be done well if we have a positive attitude towards change.”
With an automated procure-to-pay and supplier collaboration system in place, Petron actively converts its procurement operations from being a cost center into a profit center, with valuable savings directly contributing to the company’s profitability.
